Such a hit. Britney Spears, 'Baby (One More Time)' was and always will be a classic girl anthem.

While it is such a tune, it also does feature some controversial lyrics: "Hit me, baby, one more time", which gives off some S&M/50 Shades of Grey vibes.

What does the "hit me" actually mean if not literally "physically HIT me"?

The lyric mystery has now been solved. The track's line was written by Swedish songwriter Max Martin and Swedish-Moroccan songwriter Rami Yacoub, and was the result of the confusion. Martin and Yacoub thought "hit" was American slang for "call", as in calling on the phone. So they thought the line meant "Call me baby one more time" - which is way more inoffensive.

Here's a couple more fun facts about "Baby (One More Time)":

- The song was originally titled "Hit Me Baby (One More Time)", but Britney's label Jive Records thought that was too much of a controversial title, and dropped the "hit me" part.

-Also, the song was originally intended for TLC. But they rejected it. We're glad Britney did it!
