💗Bree’s written a book & it’s got me in the feels💗
It’s not every day a work colleague, and friend release’s a book all about their life.
Join me (Ella) as I take you through the themes of 'Unapologetically Me' with a special Q and A at the end!
So the second Bree told me that she was writing and releasing a book later this year, I knew this was massive for her. First off, we all know that she doesn’t read and secondly, she’s already so busy so how on earth does she have time to do this?!
I was also intrigued as to what she would write about – her life in radio and how she got the offer to work at ZM? Or would it be about her life growing up in Aussie?
From the first page to the very last ‘Unapologetically Me’ was an emotional rollercoaster. I cried, I laughed and there were so many moments I wanted to run over to Bree’s house and give her a hug ♥
We read about Bree’s childhood, her teens & transition into adulthood. How a traumatic and horrible event shaped her into the person she is today. She’s honest about how her family felt about her sexuality too.
As the days went by and the book launch became closer Bree became more and more nervous about the book being released into the world. I was curious as to what in the book made her so anxious and once I stumbled upon her opening about her mental health I understood. It's a scary thing being honest with yourself about how you’re feeling, let alone with the world.
I finished the book with having nothing but respect for Bree. I felt understood too, that I’m not alone with my annoying brain. Bree writes about her experience with ADHD and anxiety in such a beautiful and raw way, that will either make you feel heard or be able to have a bit more of an understanding towards your friends and family who struggle with their own mental health.
Bree’s writing style was easy breezy, you can clearly hear her voice read along with you in your head. It’s like you have permission to read her diary, that’s how real everything is.
My heart was full reading about Bree and the love she has for her partner, Sophia. It hasn't been an easy journey for Bree to get to where she is now, but I couldn't be more proud to see her be herself on and off air.
This book is raw and real, something I wish young me could’ve read 🥺

I don’t think any book has made me more emotional than yours. What are you hoping people feel when reading ‘Unapologetically Me?’
'I hope people feel like they belong, heard and less alone. That maybe my words give them some sort of comfort that it's not just them that feels the way they do.'
What surprised you when writing your book?
I WASN'T surprised at how hard it was to write a book, but I was surprised at just how much I got out of the process. It forced conversations with people in my life that should have happened along time again, and those conversations have strengthen relationships around me.
How did you tackle writing some of the more serious and harder chapters in the book?
With a lot of tears and support from the people closest to me. Without them I couldn't have done it.
