2024 Golden Globes: The Best and Worst Bits

The 81st Golden Globes kicked off an exciting 2024 awards season last weekend. The main attraction was, of course, the stars outfits and dresses... however when it came to awards all eyes were locked on the battle between the biggest movies of the past year: Barbie and Oppenheimer. The Margot Robbie-led Barbie was the most-nominated film of the night with 9 nominations, making it the second most-nominated film in the award show’s history, while Oppenheimer gained eight nominations. 💅☢️

What happens when you put hundreds of big personalities in the same room? A WHOLE lot of drama (just how we like it). 🤩

Here are the Best and Worst Bits of the evening!

Best Reaction to a Joke: Taylor Swift 😐

Taylor made an appearance at the Golden Globes as The Eras Tour movie was nominated for the show's new box office recognition category. The awards host, Jo Koy made a joke about the NFL constantly cutting to Swift when she shows up to support Travis Kelce, during his Kansas City Chiefs games.

“The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.” The camera then panned to Swift, who seemed unamused and took a sip of her drink.

Check out the meme-able moment! 😁

Best Ad Break Entertainment: Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner 💋

Let's be honest, this couple is really growing on us... (don't lie I know you lowkey ship them).

Kylie attended the Golden Globes as a plus one with her boyfriend of about a year, Timothée, who was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture under the Musical or Comedy for his performance as Willy Wonka in the new Wonka film.

Kylie is clearly following in her older sister, Kourtney's, footsteps when it comes to PDA with cute displays of affection, that the camera man could not get enough of during the awards Golden Globes!

Best Acceptance Speech: Ayo Edebiri 🥰

“I'm an artist and I'm very lucky to be an artist and I know we all feel that way, so I just really want to acknowledge that,” Edebiri said. “I'm so grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press and to my family, my family, my family. Everybody at 'The Bear,' that's my family, I love you guys so much."

... I mean you can't get much sweeter than that!

Lily Gladstone became the first Indigenous person to win a Golden Globe for best actress, for her role in 'Killers of the Flower Moon' as an Osage woman whose family members are killed in a plot to take their fortune.

Lily's background is Blackfeet and Nez Perce (North American Indian tribe) and after receiving a standing ovation she spoke a few lines in the Blackfeet language, “the beautiful community nation that raised me, that encouraged me to keep going, keep doing this,” she explained in English.

Best Red-Carpet Appearance: Margot Robbie 👛

Margot Robbie won the red carpet with yet another “Barbie”-inspired look, recreating a 1977 dress worn by the Mattel doll.

Worst Monologue: Jo Koy 😲

From a weird joke about being attracted to a plastic Barbie to one about the “Killers of the Flower Moon” filmmakers stealing the plot, Koy’s jokes completely missed.

Worst OTT Reaction: Jennifer Lawrence 😱

Jennifer Lawrence clearly had 'No Hard Feelings' about Emma Stone winning best comedy actress for 'Poor Things.' When their category was announced Jennifer jokingly mouthed to the camera: “If I don’t win, I’m leaving.” However, when Stone’s name was called, Lawrence jumped up screaming and clapping in elation.

Worst Injury: Pedro Pascal ❤️‍🩹

Pedro Pascal showed up to the awards wearing a sling after suffering an arm injury from a bad fall. Daddy Pedro was seen walking the red carpet wearing a black sling that matched his black-and-white ensemble.

He kept it mysterious and didn’t reveal too many details about how he injured his arm but did tell reporters at the event that he “fell.” Pedro even poked fun at himself and his clumsiness by wearing nail polish on his hurt hand that spelled out the word “Ouch.”

Worst Set Up: Labyrinth of Tables 🌽

Imagine putting hours into sorting an elaborate gown and then getting made to slowly shuffle, "pardon," squeeze by, and manoeuvrer your way through some of the most famous people in the world to finally get to the stage to accept an award. A lot of the stars had to work their trains and hems between chairs as obliging celebs just ate and sipped away on expensive caviars and champagne.

Worst Speech Interruption: Kieran Culkin Burps 🫧

There's nothing quite like starting your speech with a burp. In a wonderfully unhinged speech after winning Best Actor in a TV Drama for 'Succession', Culkin not only burped but also said, "Suck it, Pedro," to Pedro Pascal.
