The Bachelorette boys are here... and we can't wait to get to know them!
Last week 31-year-old Wellingtonian Lexie Brown was announced as TVNZ 2’s newest bachelorette. Meet all the eligible bachelors hoping to walk away with her final rose!
Alexandre Vaz 27
Software Project Manager, Auckland, Aquarius
If our bachelorette loves to travel, Vaz is her guy with his triple citizenship! Originally from South Africa, Vaz moved to New Zealand at the age of 13 with his family. Rounding out his third passport is Portugal!
Vaz might look familiar too, he was on TVNZ’s second season of Heartbreak Island! Having watched a fellow Heartbreak Islander on Lesina’s season (Tavita), Vaz’s hoping he’ll have better luck!
What do you think is your best quality in a relationship?
I am very committed and overly loving. When I fall for someone, I fall hard and although I can be busy at times, that person has all my attention and heart. It’s burned me too many times in the past, but I can’t seem to shake falling so hard and just thinking the absolute universe of my partner.
What is your favourite Romcom movie?
I don’t have one but am definitely open to getting a favourite one…
Bradden Hurn 25
Physiotherapist/Wellbeing Coach, Auckland, Pisces
Originally from Tauranga, Bradden moved to Auckland to study, then eventually settled down in Tāmaki Makaurau for work.
A big fan of the series, Bradden has watched all previous seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette New Zealand, so he knows what to expect at the first rose ceremony!
If he had to sing a karaoke song, it’d be the ‘absolute tune’ Wagon Wheel.
What made you want to sign up to be on The Bachelorette?
I wanted to go on The Bachelorette because I thought it would push me outside of my comfort zone and give me the chance to meet someone new, who I could potentially spend the rest of my life with. And, also just to have a great time with a bunch of great people.
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
I’m a sucker for creative romance. For Valentine’s Day, I did four different locations, each were discovered by figuring out a clue that was given at the start. At each different destination there was an activity and a couple of presents which had some meaning to her and she would receive a new clue at each new place.
It included mountaintop picnics, animal farm feedings, summer rock pool swimming, and a romantic dinner at our favourite restaurant to finish.
Jozef Weck 31
Builder/Engineer, Whangarei, Capricorn
A fun-loving, confident guy, Jozef isn’t afraid to take on any adventurous activity
thrown his way!
When it comes to key qualities in a relationship, Joe’s focuses are patience, creativity and honesty. He’ll need all three of these qualities in the mansion in order to stand out to our bachelorette.
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
Created 10 days of surprises leading up to Xmas and each day I sent a message telling her a hint then she would have a scavenger hunt to find the gift. The hint was a short poem about something we do or had done together. It’s in the top 10 memories for me.
Have you watched any of The Bachelor franchises before?
Just the last season. I think I got four episodes in and that was enough.
Matt Bidwell 27
Roofer, Auckland, Leo
Calling himself an ‘all or nothing’ kind of guy, Matt’s all in for our bacheloretteand this experience!
Having never seen the previous seasons of The Bachelor NZ, or even last year’s The Bachelorette NZ, Matt is entering the show without any expectations. Instead, he just wants to rock up and put his best foot forward and hopefully that’ll impress our leading lady!
What made you want to sign up to be on The Bachelorette?
I saw this as a great chance to do something new, something challenging and something out of my comfort zone in the hope that I would learn, grow and become a better, stronger person from the experience.
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
Honestly, I’ve been a pretty hopeless romantic in the past. Besides small kind gestures / the odd present and a sunset picnic here and there I can’t say I’ve made a huge effort to be romantic. I wouldn’t say
Zach Preston 33
Customer Success/Code Avengers, Hamilton, Capricorn
Born in Utah, Zach has spent most of his life going back and forth between America and New Zealand.
After using his 20s for soul searching, trying to figure out who he was, Zach’s ready to take a chance on love with our bachelorette.
When it comes to his favourite Romcom, it’s an early 2000’s classic, How to Lose A
Guy in 10 Days.
What made you want to sign up to be on The Bachelorette?
I have always thought that The Bachelor was an awesome idea, love is something that we all crave and want.
Also, the experience of being out of my comfort zone and experiencing something new and exciting made it a bit of a no brainer when they called me up and asked me to come be on the show.
If you were going to be known for something, what would you hope it would be?
I would want to be known for being an extremely kind and loving person. Authentic,
genuine, someone who cares about other people, and they genuinely feel it.
Ben Masara 26
Registered Nurse, Dunedin, Cancer
Being a registered nurse makes dating hard for Ben, as he doesn’t work the classic 9-5 job and often works weekends. After a suggestion from his friend Ben applied for the show, and now he’s heading to the mansion!
When it comes to who his dream girl would be, Ben’s hoping to find someone outgoing, driven and someone he can trust and build a relationship with. Plus, he wouldn’t mind a romantic soul!
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
On Valentine’s Day I made my ex a picnic and went and spent the day at the beach. I also bought her a bouquet of roses, chocolates and made a Valentine’s card expressing my love for her.
What would be your spirit animal and why?
A Labrador! Always affectionate and hungry ha!
Dave Borrie 25
Radio presenter, Dunedin, Scorpio
After spending five and a half years in Dunedin studying, Dave graduated with a MSc in Coastal Geomorphology. Originally from Cromwell, Dave’s stuck around in Dunedin to focus on music, where he’s currently a radio presenter at the local Uni radio station.
Always ready for a laugh, Dave describes himself as someone who’s ‘going through life with a smile on his face’. When it comes to his romantic side, he’s all about words of affirmation, and being able to express yourself is something he’s after from his partner.
Have you watched any of The Bachelor franchises before?
It was always a big flat ritual to watch all the previous NZ Bachelor / Bachelorette Seasons. Season 2 of The Bachelor was a personal favourite – and I never saw myself in the position of the contestants. Fingers crossed!
What would be your spirit animal?
Probably a giraffe – they’re so mysteriously tall, and what’s behind those big,
beautiful eyes of theirs?
Hamish Boyt 30
Content Creator, Whangarei, Aries
Always packed and ready to go for his next adventure, Hamish is known to his friends as ‘the travel guy’, exploring different parts of Aotearoa and the world. With Covid-19 firmly grounding him in NZ, he’s swapped his camera for a suit and is heading for the mansion.
Hamish is a talented photographer, where you may recognise him from Instagram, where he shares some of his incredible scenic pictures with his 60,000 followers!
What made you want to sign up to be on The Bachelorette?
2020 was horrible so I was after a new adventure and thought it would be a fun experience.
What do you think is your best quality in a relationship?
I am loyal and thoughtful and always looking to keep the relationship fun full of laughs and adventure
Itay Dom 27
Electrical Engineer, Auckland, Cancer
Comedian Itay is hoping that he’ll have our bachelorette laughing out loud, when he makes his first impression on the red carpet! Although he’s never taken the love languages quiz, he’s quick off the mark to say his love vowel is ‘U’.
Will Itay’s refreshingly honest approach have him winning over the bachelorette, or will it have him finding the letters ‘C U’ in the alphabet?
What made you want to sign up to be on The Bachelorette?
I remember the moment before I signed the contract to get on the show. I had mixed feelings about it. Up to that point I was just out here fish-bowling. And I knew if it went badly, I’d have to get my bus window tinted.
For some reason the idea of going on a blind date on national TV wasn’t scary to me. It was rather exciting actually. So, I decided to sign the contract and try to get a tan in the limelight while I’m at it.
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
Gave a girl a label maker for her birthday. But she didn’t want to put a label on it.
Josh Nielson 32
Plumber/Gasfitter, Auckland, Pisces
Things are already looking good for Josh and our bachelorette – their favourite Romcom movie’s line up with Crazy, Stupid, Love!
Originally from Auckland, Josh spent five years in Palmerston North as part of the
New Zealand Army before leaving and moving back to the supercity.
When it comes to dating, Josh loves to surprise his someone special with getaways, beachside dinners or even picnics with a view. The reaction on their face is really rewarding to him, which makes sense that quality time is up there in his love languages!
What made you want to sign up to be on The Bachelorette?
I thought why not, what have I got to lose? I love giving new things a go!
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
On the downlow I arranged and surprised my partner at the time with a getaway to Hawaii, she didn’t have any idea where we were going until it was time to jump on
the plane.
Paul Patterson 35
Chef, Waiheke Island, Sagittarius
With his luscious locks and fantastic facial hair, Paul is hoping to impress on the red
carpet!
2020 was set to see Paul open a restaurant in New York. With Covid-19 changing those plans, Paul returned to New Zealand and luckily for us – to the bachelorette mansion.
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
Moved countries after knowing a girl for 24 hours. Packed up my life, chased her across the world.
Have you watched any of The Bachelor franchises before?
Only watched some since signing up to do it. Watched a few eps of the Kiwi Bachelorette. Still said yes anyway.
Jake Ryan 26
Primary School Teacher, Tauranga, Scorpio
Hoping to show younger brother how it’s done and walk away with the final rose, another Ryan brother is heading to the mansion!
Having been part of the hometown visits last year when brother Quinn brought Lily home, Jake got to see what the experience was all about first-hand and decided to sign up himself.
Spending several years in Palmerston North, Jake graduated as a primary school teacher with a Bachelor of Education. Now based in Tauranga, he teaches year 3&4 children, a career he finds extremely rewarding.
Will we see another bachelorette head home to Hawke’s Bay to meet the Ryan family in 2021?
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
I love a bit of romance! I like surprising others... plus wine and chocolate with a view
doesn’t go a miss.
What would be your spirit animal and why?
Butterfly because I am social, positive, passionate and love being around people.
Jarrod Isopo 25
Financial Analyst, Auckland, Virgo
Jarrod is hoping to find someone special who’ll eat a picnic of fried chicken and watch Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham with him. His role as a financial analyst saw him working first-hand with the Covid-19 response team, creating financial models for the managed isolation facilities.
Jarrod’s hoping it isn’t the last time he’s involved with policies and politics. Instead, he wants to be in the Beehive, making those decisions.
So, will our bachelorette be the queen bee for Jarrod?
What are your love languages?
Quality time (to give) words of affirmation (to receive).
If you were going to be known for something, what would you hope it would be?
Hopefully a caring guy. I’m not into the whole external validation, your opinion is
yours and I respect that.
Nathan Loo 28
Musician, Auckland, Libra
Although he didn’t sign up himself (he’s got his sister to thank for that!), Nathan decided to give the opportunity a go, and now he’s ready to meet our bachelorette!
With a dating history that includes a few long-term relationships, Nathan is hoping that he can find that perfect partner to help take his lovable pooch on walks with.
The Auckland based jazz muso is hoping he’ll be able to woo our bachelorette with his music. After all, if he could be known for anything it would be bringing people joy through his music.
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
Surprised her with a trip to Fiji as a birthday gift!
What would be your spirit animal?
I would say my dog Theo is my spirit animal. He’s outgoing and adventurous but has a soft heart and kind eyes.
Todd Dialectos 26
Sales Manager, Auckland, Aries
Originally from across the ditch, Todd has made Auckland home. Raised in a traditional Italian household by his mum and his noona, Todd’s family means the absolute world to him. With love shown through food in his family home,
nothing can beat a roast meal!
A confident guy, he’s hoping that he’ll be able to make a great first impression on the red carpet. The type of guy that wears his heart on his sleeve, Todd’s hoping he can find a genuine connection with our leading lady.
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
I moved countries for a partner and left my family and friends in Australia to help
her pursue her dreams over in New Zealand. I don’t regret a thing was the best
move of my life.
Have you watched any of The Bachelor franchises before?
I’ve never watched an episode of any Bachelor or Bachelorette shows. I thought I’d
come into this whole thing blind.
Aidan Uttinger 39
Entrepreneur, Cambridge/Auckland, Pisces
Aidan returned to NZ following the global pandemic in 2020, after spending the last year living in Bali.
Basing himself in Cambridge with his mum, he’s enjoyed spending more quality time with his family, after he left home at 17.
A ‘dabbling’ entrepreneur, Aidan has his hands in many pies, mainly a tequila company based in America called Religion and an app he’s working on at the moment to spread love around the world.
When it comes to his karaoke go-to song, you’d hear Aidan belting out American Pie.
What made you want to sign up to be on The Bachelorette?
I just had a feeling I needed to be there, and I always trust my gut!
What do you think is your best quality in a relationship?
I am extremely creative and romantic. Whoever snags me will get very well looked after!
Damien Ducloux 24
Programme Coordinator, Auckland, Taurus
Originally from France, Damien moved to New Zealand when he was 14 to start a new life with his family. When he got to NZ, he had to learn English from the ground up, so he’s prepared to put in the hard yards!
A bit of a jokester, Damien loves to laugh and make others around him happy. With playing soccer, netball, basketball, video games and hanging out with friends being listed as his hobbies on the weekend, let’s hope he’s got time for our bachelorette!
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
I once learned to play and sing the song stand by me on guitar, took my partner at the time to the beach, lit up a small bonfire and we spent the night talking and dancing by the fire with my lame guitar skills ha! Plenty more stories but this is the more memorable one!
What would be your spirit animal?
I think my spirit animal would be a butterfly, because my life is always unfolding into new adventures, and I’m always changing as a person and I always look forward to those changes. The ability to learn from my mistakes and grow can also be represented with the butterfly.
The butterfly is also a form of rebirth and I wear my heart on my sleeve and I fall
quite often.
Jack Becroft 26
Account manager, Auckland, Capricorn
Describing himself as a ‘hopeless romantic’, believing that there is someone out there for everyone, Jack is hoping that the special someone he’s looking for is our bachelorette!
When it comes to a relationship, Jack sees himself as the type of guy who always tries to put others’ needs before his own. Fittingly, his love language is service to others.
As for his dream girl, he’s looking for someone independent, fun-loving, friendly and easy going.
What made you want to sign up to be on The Bachelorette?
A combination of friends suggesting it and me sick of being a lonely bugger. 2020 was definitely a crazy year, so why not add to it!
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
I wouldn’t say it’s something I’ve done specifically, but I have had The Notebook style kiss in the rain under a streetlamp after a first date. We both laughed out how cliché it was!
