We all want to leave a legacy right, yet only 48% of Kiwis have a will!
Â
Last week was Public Trust Wills Week, so Fletch, Vaughan & Hayley decided to get one sorted, and protect what matters.
Every Kiwi has someone, or something, that’s worth protecting.
You don’t have to be old or rich to need a will. If you’ve got any assets (including your KiwiSaver account) worth over $15,000 then you should have a will. You should also have a will if you’re married, have kids or own property.
New research shows that kiwis believe leaving a legacy matters to New Zealanders. Leaving something behind helps people and communities thrive – 71% claim an emotional benefit from receiving a legacy, which supersedes the number who received a financial benefit from a legacy – 51%. Legacy can also be about passing on family traditions and values, your favourite art, or some sentimental jewellery.
You could even include all your finest fashion choices from over the decades, like Hayley's dress collection for Vaughan's girls.
Â
A will is your chance to leave something meaningful for the ones closest to you! Like Fletch who left his cat, Major Murray, to Hayley and Vaughan.
If you die without a will, your family may need to go through a more complex, time-consuming process involving the courts to have your assets distributed, and they may not be passed on in the way you would have wanted.
Protect what matters, for the people that matter most and get your will sorted today!
