A building at Massey University in Palmerston North was evacuated today after a threat - the third made to New Zealand universities since yesterday.
Palmerston North Police evacuated parts of the Massey University campus after "a threat to staff at the registry building" at the Manawatu Campus, police said in a statement.
It was understood the threat was a note.
"Police take these threats extremely seriously and for safety of people in the area, evacuated parts of the campus while they conducted a thorough search," the statement said.
"Police have cleared the area and while they are satisfied there is no direct threat to members of the university, there will be an increase in security over the next few days."
The incident is being investigated and the public is advised to avoid the area.
A building at Victoria University in Wellington was evacuated this morning after a note threatening a bomb would be detonated was discovered.
Yesterday, a post in the online chat forum 4chan claimed a mass shooting was being planned at University of Otago today.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have information about the threats by phoning 06 3513600 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
