Microsoft Didn't Create Solitaire and Minesweeper Just For Fun

Back in the good ol' days the only games we had on our computers were the ones that were already installed on it.

Solitaire and Minesweeper were addictive games in the 90's, like Candy Crush level of addiction,  but they weren't just created for our entertainment. The real reason is much, much smarter.

Mental Floss has revealed that these games were actually teaching people crucial new computing functions.

Solitaire allowed people to get familiar with the now standard 'drag and drop' system.

The main purpose of Minesweeper was to teach users to use both left and right clicking on the mouse, something that is now a major function of a computer.

Although many of these things sound obvious, they weren't so obvious back then we were all new to the idea of computing. Get your grandparents to try using an iPad, and their struggle is how everyone was on a computer in the 90's. Painful, we know.
