It looks like Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins’ advice for New Zealanders to “spread their legs” safely may have been taken seriously.
Adulttoymegastore sales of sexual health and wellness products, such as lubricant, condoms and sex toys, have more than doubled since Level 4 restrictions, following a similar trend to last year’s 'adult toy boom' during lockdown.
The significant increase in sales occurred within 24 hours of the announcement made by PM Jacinda Ardern that NZ would move to Alert Level 4 at 11.59pm, 17 August.
According to Adulttoymegastore sales data comparing New Zealand sales between 17 August 2021 to 23 August 2021, product types that have seen the biggest increase since lockdown include:
- Lubricant (467%)
- Masturbators (450%)
- Vibrators (225%)
- Remote controlled/app-controlled sex toys (200%)
- Anti-bacterial toy cleaner (186%)
- Condoms (150%)
The regions that have seen the biggest percentage change in sales include:
- Pukekohe 160%
- Mount Maunganui 100%
- Wellington 48%
- Palmerston North 41%
- New Plymouth 40%
- Hamilton 39%
- Tauranga 30%
- Whangarei 24%
- Upper Hutt 24%
- Christchurch 22%
- Auckland 21%
Nicola Relph, Adulttoymegastore owner and operator, said, “The increase in sales is from main centres as well as from rural addresses, which tells us that people are staying home and safe while keeping their sexual wellness in mind. If it keeps people happy in their own bubbles safe and sound, that’s a good thing.”
Keep spreading your legs and not the virus New Zealand!
