In case your mum hasn't already drilled it into you, sleep is f*cking important.

'cuse the French but we're really trying to hammer it home.

But not only how much sleep we get important, so is how we're sleeping.

If you're plagued with pimples then it may be down to the way you're snoozing.

Simply getting your eight hours might not protect you from breakouts.

Your sleeping position could be playing ravage to your skin as new research has revealed that sleeping on your front with your face nestled in your pillow might cause spot eruptions.

In some cases, it might even cause Acne Mechanica – a type of acne caused by pressure and rubbing.

Why? Because it turns out that pillows hold a sh*t ton of bacteria. After a week of sleeping on them, pillow cases contain 17,442 more bacteria than a toilet seat. Um yuck.

Even if you don't sleep on your face, you should probably be changing your pillow cases at least twice a week.

But, there's also bad news for those who sleep on their side, as it allows for fluid below the skin to pool, which causes both puffiness and wrinkles.

Only way to win? Sleeping on your back, but that's easier said than done.
