In case you wanted to know, there's actually an official ugliest colour in the world. The colour has been described as “death” and, “dirty”, as is the Pantone 448C:

Colours can conjure up a lot of emotions, and this colour has the power to “minimize appeal” and “maximise perceived harm.”.

You have Australia to thank for this colour being dubbed the world’s ugliest colour?

The Australian government commissioned research agency GfK Bluemoon to design the least appealing cigarette packaging possible, using the ugliest colour they could find. Over three months they conducted studies to determine the most unappealing colour.

According to GfK market researcher Victoria Parr, respondents had nothing positive to say about the colour.

Victoria said “We didn’t want to create attractive, aspirational packaging designed to win customers. Instead our role was to help our client reduce demand, with the ultimate aim to minimise use of the product”
