Before you get excited, we're gonna let you know from the out set that the first text that was ever sent was pretty boring.

It all happened on the 3rd of December 1992 (what did we even do without texting before then?) when Neil Papworth, a 22-year-old test engineer sent the first text to his colleague Richard Jarvis.

The text read: 'Merry Christmas'.

We know. Disappointing. Not to mention the fact that it wasn't even Christmas day!

Neil sent the text from his personal computer to the Vodafone network to Richard's Orbitel 901 mobile - just imagine a brick and that's what the Orbitel looked like.

Bet they wish that they thought of something cooler to text when they were making history.
