So this latest beauty trend is super weird. To aid the growth of their eyebrows, beauty bloggers have started rubbing onions all over their brows.
Huda Kattan, a beauty blogger with over 12 million Instagram followers, is on the trend bandwagon, and has encouraged others to get amongst the onion rubbing with this video that she posted online:
According to the beauty blogger the sulphur in onion juice "speeds up the growth of hair and makes it thicker". She has a process, which involves rubbing raw and cut onion onto brows, massaging it in for five minutes, allowing the brows to dry and then rinsing off any onion residue with cold water and a mild cleanser.
Allure, which is a US beauty site, investigated the the trend by talking to a cosmetic chemist and a dermatologist.
“I’ve never seen any evidence that topically applied sulfur can enhance hair growth. If that were true, everyone would be selling sulfur solutions for hair growth," cosmetic chemist Randy Schueller told Allure.
“Sulfur is important in hair; however applying onion juice does not mean that the sulfur is incorporated into the hair strand. Rather, the sulfur acts as a natural anti-inflammatory,” said dermatologist Kavita Mariwalla.
So in summary, yes sulphur is good for your hair, but rubbing onion on your brows probably ain't going to improve that fleekiness in anyway.
