Lady Gaga was nominated for her first Oscar for her original song “Til It Happens to You” (which she co-wrote with Diane Warren), from the documentary The Hunting Ground, which explores rape on college campuses in the U.S.
Her performance was introduced by Vice President Joe Biden, who spoke about the White House’s “It’s On Us” campaign, addressing sexual assault.
Gaga featured a group of sexual-assault survivors joining her on stage which drew a standing ovation and tears from members of the audience.
